Mei-jen Sun Stokesbary earned a Bachelors of Art in Fine Art from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. The day before graduating a woman ran a stop sign and t-boned her at an intersection. Mei-jen tried acupuncture and chiropractics to help relieve the trauma she experienced. Acupuncture intrigued her, so she apprenticed and worked with Dr. Qiu a graduate of Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medical School in Laguna Niguel, CA and which began her interest in Herbal Medicine.
She returned to the Pacific Northwest to study Herbalism with Karta Purkh Khalsa, when he was the president of the American Herbalists Guild (AHG). She continued her study of physical fitness with yoga instructing for Edgeworks Climbing Gym, YMCA, YWCA, Multicare Non-profit Hospitals of Tacoma, and Arcadia Montessori for children. She returned to California to study massage with Healing Hands of San Diego. All of this eventually led her to even further study in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawai’i for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Acupuncture, Japanese Acupuncture, & Chinese Herbalism.
Mei-jen earned her Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine at the Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawai’i in May 2009.
